The musical performance “Open chest ” travels back in time, bringing to light the infinite wealth of musical diversity of Asia Minor, a place that was a crossroads of East and West. Songs of love, the sea, foreign lands, the lyrical patinades, the wedding recordings, the lullabies, etc. come to life before us.
The musical ensemble will make a journey to the provinces of Asia Minor, with the cosmopolitan Smyrna as its centre, where music was pleople’s means of spiritual expression.
“AsmaMusicEnsemble” was created in 2017 out of its members’ love for the research, study and interpretation of the Greek musical tradition.
It consists of Asterios Trakas – violin, Konstantina Petriniotis- singing, and Elisavet Trakas – lute. The musicians of the group have an active presence in performances, events and musical productions that highlight the musical wealth and the folk customs and traditions of various regions of Greece.
The repertoire includes songs from mainland and island Greece, such as Thrace, Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, Cyclades, Dodecanese and Asia Minor. The interpretation is done through the study of the local musical idioms, which characterize the musical system and style of each region, but also through the personality and expression of the members of the group.
