I remember when traveling with our car, our dad used to play Vamvakaris and Papaioannou. My brother and I were more into the Rolling Stones and Nick Cave. Time went by and I started discovering different music legends little by little, such as Sweet Emma Barret, Benny Goodman, Blind Willie Johnson or Little Walter who I believe influenced me a lot in many things.
During the final year of junior high school I got to listen to the masterpieces of Skarvelis for the very first time. In time I met Papagika, Papazoglou, Iovan Tsaous. Throughout senior high school I would listen to pre-war rebetiko. The first ones of Markos or the hymns of Dalgas. These were the songs of an era, the charm of which is incomparable and unique. I have known Tota for more than a decade and we are both members of the rock band “Dreamers”. We started this venture in Thessaloniki, where we went to study.
Tota follows the voices that mesmerize her. That is how, almost unconsciously, we started playing. Rebetiko with piano and voice.
